An Attitude of Gratitude: Is That How We All Feel?

Let’s be honest, with the holiday season approaching not everyone is going to be happy. For some, loved ones are no longer around and holidays are not the same.  Depression, stress, commitments and finances trickle in and can become overwhelming.

Let’s check in this Thanksgiving holiday, with those who are suffering from seasonal depression. Here are a few tips and remedies to tackle the holiday woes:

 Tips:

Think on purpose:

- Mentally prepare for the day. Try not to focus on the holiday, what it used to be like or how you wish it would be. Make a new tradition by going to your favorite restaurant, or volunteering to help another in need.

Listen to your body:

-  Stick to a routine. It’s been said that physical activity has an anti-anxiety effect, so if your routine is yoga, running or dancing do it. Some yoga studios and gyms are open during the morning of holidays. If you can’t make it dance in the living room to your favorite songs.

Acknowledge your feelings:

- It is normal to feel sad and go through a grieving process, especially if a loved one has just passed. Try not to be alone, reach out to friends or family for support. If you cannot get to them, call them up – that conversation may help ground you.
